January 2007

The Church’s new website is up and running at LDS.org. Nice clean look–though I had to look in the index for the stake and ward website portal. Other than that, so far, I like it. Take it out for a spin.

Update 1/31/07 8:10 a.m. In response to my email feed back on the Church’s website about their new look, I received the following email:

Right now stake/ward websites can be found in About The Church. We are working on a redesign to make it be found more easily. Thanks for the feedback.

Sincerely the LDS.org Portal Team

In response to the following email:
I really like the site; but, I think you should have included a direct link to the stake and ward websites on the front page as there was on the old front page. I’ve posted about the new site on my blog here. A few people have commented. You may want to see their comments as well. You can read them here:

So it appears there will be something that will make the link more user friendly.

Brother Edward and sonsMy blogging time has dimished of late. I’m set for three trials between now and March, so my ability to do anything but prepare for trials is pretty slim; however, I did get a Ghana Mission update. I have made the time to get this post up, because, at least to me these emails are a reality check of what is real, what is important, and what truly has priority not just for time, but for eternity. This email from the Moncurs is filled with incredible stories from the West Africa Ghana Mission. It is also filled with some very moving photos. The email follows below, and the photos after that: (more…)

Dad

I lost my Dad, a year ago today. It does not seem possible that an entire year has passed. Yet, time seems to have that magical characteristic of standing still at the moment. Then as the moments meld together the minutes become hours, then days, weeks, months and years. (more…)

After such an ugly end to 2006, it is so refreshing and energizing to post and discuss something truly virtuous, lovely, or of good report or praiseworthy I have received the most recent update from the West Africa Ghana mission, and was buoyed up after having the opportunity to read it and look at the photos Elder and Sister Moncur sent. Reading their emails and seeing the photos brings me a much needed reality check for those things which are truly needful and good.

Everytime I read one of these emails, I always think of King Benjamin’s discourse on service:

Behold, I say unto you that because I said unto you that I had spent my days in your service, I do not desire to boast, for I have only been in the service of God.

And behold, I tell you these things that ye may learn wisdom; that ye may learn that when ye are in the service of your fellow beings ye are only in the service of your God.

We are indeed blessed to live when we do, and where we do, after the Restoration of this Great Work. I am truly humbled.

Happy New Year everyone–May God’s blessings follow you throughout this new year.

Following is the email. The photos follow after that. You can double click on them, to see them in the original and full sizes (more…)
