that is one incredibly white Captain Moroni you got there.
Very cute but I have to admit I am uncomfortable with the mixed messages. How is a California Proposition like the Title of Liberty? I just do not see it in the same vein. As in that there is no real usurping of rights just a restatement of them, or not as the case may be.

Freedom to hate, perhaps…

What exactly is gay marriage (which exists right now) going to do to your (at a minimum) your wives (plural?) and children? And what about that breastplate?

I posted this cartoon and the one about Samuel the Lamanite because I thought it interesting to preserve the LDS cultural aspect of this whole thing. I’m not suggesting anything by posting either of them. As with many editorial type cartoons, I think these make a statement–perhaps overstated–as are many editorial/political cartoons. I leave it up to others to express their own views on them.
On the other hand, I do believe there are sound legal and societal reasons to support Proposition 8. I have tried to post several of those, and explain my thinking in those types of posts. These LDS cultural religious editorial cartoons are just that. I have no substantive comments to make on any of them.
I did not create them. They were forwarded to me via email. I simply posted them, because I thought they were interesting.

shoring up the base?

Yeah, I’ve received emails from members referencing the Title of Liberty in the Prop 8 context:

Again, very disturbing.

Chino,
Nice post. Uh…what exactly does socialism have to do with gay rights? It’s funny how those Bensonites out there have to tie it back to that in order to justify their actions.

I am not criticizing your position Guy. I just thought someone was not really thinking when they did this drawing. Especially the anachronistically white Capt Moroni.

Dan,
Thanks. Who the heck knows? At an October 28th Prop 8 rally in Sacramento, Yes on 8 spokesman Brad Dacus claimed defeating gays is like defeating Hitler. So now I’m really confused. Is passing Prop 8 like beating back socialism (as that Bensonite suggested) or is it more like fighting fascism?
Or maybe the point is simply to make sure no bogeyman is left behind before Nov. 4th.
In any case, it’s too bad that all faithful Mormon bloggers, commenters and email composers were not asked to tape this DKL quote to the top of their computer screens before this whole thing got started:
“When you use the notion of religious faithfulness as a weapon to enforce political uniformity, you distort the nature of religion, you bruise the message of the gospel, and you make our church look like a cult.”

Guy,
I suspect this campaign has induced a highly polarized state among the voters. The reason we see so much strong rhetoric and propaganda. Most people are spectators, not that strongly convinced by arguments from either side.
I doubt that many homosexuals are voicing their own opinion. The tumult is raised by very few outspoken, people who presume to represent other’s interests, on both sides of the issue. If we could examine the matter dispassionately, hear the arguments plainly and honestly, it would assume a different perspective.
I continue to maintain my support for church leaders. They are endowed with the power of prophetic insight others lack.
I hear all the shouting and accusations surging back and forth, and feel nothing but confusion. Nice to have some direction, when all the world makes such a great clamor.

Disgusting.
Using this story to propagate political hate.

Great way to make Moroni “of the world”. This is just so tasteless. Don’t you remember being taught about the unrighteous Catholics bishops who used the phrase “it is God’s will” to accomplish their own political ends?
How self serving. Even though you didn’t create this drawing, you are just perpetuating this image that all Mormons are these blind Republicans who fear what they don’t understand.
