Lots of noise today from the political right. Lots of discussion about “restoring honor to America” and “getting back to God.” On this I can agree with those who so proclaim from the nation’s capitol, today. The path, however, lies through keeping the commandments, and not adhering to the philosophies of men. America has strayed from Her primary purpose as the Cradle of the Restoration, but not through any political sins–so called. Rather, Her people like many before have strayed from the Commandments of God, and no longer worship Jesus Christ. This is where America’s fundamental problem lies.
The solution is rather simple–but most, likely will not see it because of the simplicity. If we truly want to restore honor to America and get back to God, we should begin to keep His Commandments and we will prosper in the land. The best way to do that is to follow the Brethren, not Beck. We will restore much more honor to America and get much closer to God by reading more of the Scriptures, praying more to God, serving others, than by all the breast beating and pontificating from Washington D.C. Choose you this day . . .

I agree with your post, and add, Beck is one of our brethren.

I decided to tune in and see what it was all about. Most of it didn’t do much for me (to say the least), but there were some good points made at the end. What stuck with me most was that we each simply have to do our part to follow God and do and be good.
The breast-beating parts of it all? Not really my thing (to say the least).

Only a few years ago Beck was writing articles about having sex with his sister and berating a competitor’s wife live on radio when she had just suffered a miscarriage. The man is a shameless and sometimes cruel opportunist who probably has no real core beliefs other than what will promote Glenn Beck. He certainly is not one of my “bretheren.”

I understand Beck is a committed member of the church. I also understand that he wrote about having sex with his sister to make a point about same sex unions. In other words, he didn’t have sex with his sister. However, I think it was a stupid way to make a point.

Why can’t beck be a voice in the modern media era. I was at the rally Saturday and believe me it was packed. If the speakers had been L Tom Perry and Cecil Samuelson they would not have packed the mall. There were huge swarms o evangelical southerners and easterners who find Beck’s message to resonate. Nobody is saying Glenn Beck is a prophet, but he is saying the right things at the right time to a nation that is in the
moral wilderness.
Mormons (and VERY tuned in Gentiles) should follow the brethren. For the rest of us Glenn Beck is a fine bridge. Everyone knows he is LDS, he is single handedly changing the horrible perceptions people have of our faith, and where that leads…..

The perceptions he is “creating” are divisive, ignorant, and petty. I am usually embarrassed whenever the words “Glen Beck” and “Latter-day Saint” are used in the same “news” report.

Would the bretheren attack the President’s religion as Beck did? I doubt it. Who can now complain when Mormons are attacked for their relgion? Thanks Glenn. Thanks a lot.

Loved the Rally, and being with other like-minded citizens, including our grandson.. We are committed to the Gospel and see Glenn in a similar way that Ethan does. We were the only Latter-day Saints in our group of 7 buses. we were so pleased to witness just how much Glenn has brought so many of us together.. we talked about the Church to some of those sitting close to us, and they were interested in hearing more about the Gospel, mainly because they appreciate Glenn so much and figure the Church has to be a good source of truth.

Oh Marsha dear! Be careful, be very very careful. I know from your post that you are passionate but passion does not truth make. The church is a good source of truth, but this rally was about Glenn Beck, not the church, and any thought otherwise is a open invitation to the adversary.

I read a summary of his talk tonite. Interesting, because it’s hard to argue with what his message was. It just becomes tricky because most of the time, he has talked politics and that to me is a distraction. I really liked what he said at the rally, though. I mean, if people really were to just get to the core of being better people — building individual faith, spending time with family, developing charity — we *would* have a better country.
I don’t think it’s necessarily a bad thing to have someone with influence trying to encourage people toward such ends. I don’t think he ought to be treated as a prophet, of course, but as someone said above, the message resonates with a lot of people across a variety of beliefs.
His politics can be pretty divisive, though, so I’m torn on it all.

Getting back to following the Lord & his chosen Prophet is the point that Guy is making. If we read the scriptures, pray, and follow what Pres Monson & the rest of the brethren say, we will be protected and guided to where we need to be, and what we need to be doing.
Personally, I do not find Beck as a “bridge” to anywhere but headaches and confusion. I’ve listened to his programs, and my mother-in-law was actually a guest on his show. As he is paid to be, he is a political blow-hard, pandering to the masses. He is not a prophet, nor anyone we should really be taking any sort of religious advice from. If he were your Bishop, and held the mantle of presiding over his ward, then he would be in a position to give advice and counsel as a representative of the Lord. As a TV personality, he is just that, a personality.
The mall in DC, would of course, not be as full if Pres Monson were speaking. But there a millions more watching him during every conference session.
We are a peculiar people. But we are a people that look to include all of God’s children. We are a people that look to serve all of God’s children.

I love you Aaron, and I don’t even know you.
“Who can now complain when Mormons are attacked for their religion?”
I reflected on that sentiment and thought this would be a wonderful thing. If Mormons had one less thing to complain about. (and I’m not implying we’re a bunch of complainers)
On further reflection, I’m glad if we can have one less reason to complain about anything.

Sorry guys. Glenn may be a brother, but he is not a “brethren.” He makes my skin crawl with that “let me take a shower” feeling. He is an opportunist and anyone who feels like he is speaking in behalf of the Savior, needs to have a serious PPI with their bishop. Remember, a little bit of truth mixed with a whole lot of bull puckey should be a big warning flag to us all.

Not too surprising the Obama voters disapprove. If you’d actually attended the rally, possibly you’d know why Brother Beck includes ALL faiths & ethnicities in his call for a Country which respects the First Amendment, yet puts God first, is his main concern. Perhaps you’ve noticed he’s just as abusive of so-called Conservatives as so-called Liberals? Bro. Beck does not hold himself out as a Prophet nor THE arbiter of PC. Perhaps a lesson outline? He is the first one to point out his weaknesses & failings; but thanks for your contributions.
