Time again for the Semi Annual Conference of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints–Mormon General Conference.  LDS Media Talk has a great post with several links on how best to enjoy this year’s October Conference.    There are also several Blogernacle Links where you can follow conference:  Of course there is the By Common Consent Threads–i.e., The One and Only True General Conference Thread (psst–don’t tell them, but they think they’re the only ‘nacle link out there for General Conference).  Chris H over at FPR has an open thread, mingling the philosophies of men, with conference (and being the social justice guru I know him to be, it will also include the philosophies of women as well). M* also has an open thread.  If you Tweet, the follow #ldsconf for pithy 140 character summaries.  Should be a great 5 sessions.  Come listen to Prophets, Seers and Revelators–messengers of the Lord Jesus Christ, and mold your life accordingly . . .

Lots of noise today from the political right.  Lots of discussion about “restoring honor to America” and “getting back to God.”  On this I can agree with those who so proclaim from the nation’s capitol, today.  The path, however, lies through keeping the commandments, and not adhering to the philosophies of men.  America has strayed from Her primary purpose as the Cradle of the Restoration, but not through any political sins–so called.  Rather, Her people like many before have strayed from the Commandments of God, and no longer worship Jesus Christ.  This is where America’s fundamental problem lies.

The solution is rather simple–but most, likely will not see it because of the simplicity.  If we truly want to restore honor to America and get back to God, we should begin to keep His Commandments and we will prosper in the land. The best way to do that is to follow the Brethren, not Beck. We will restore much more honor to America and get much closer to God by reading more of the Scriptures, praying more to God, serving others, than by all the breast beating and pontificating from Washington D.C.  Choose you this day . . .

A repost from the past, commemorating the 166th anniversary of the martyrdom of the Prophet Joseph Smith, I post three versions of that event that I have enjoyed over the years. (more…)

I traditionally live blog all sessions of the LDS General Conference.  This year, I will be out town on Saturday, October 3, 2009 the first day of the conference.  I hope to be back in time for Sunday’s Sessions.  There are other great resources on various  LDS Blogs for conference.  Check out The Mormon Archipelago for threads covering conference.  The Church’s website has links to Internet coverage. See LDS Media Talk for additional links. Those who will address the world during this General Conference are modern day living Prophets and Apostles.  They are called to be special witnesses of Jesus Christ and His message.  I urge all to listen to their words and give them great weight.

[Admin Note:  The following post is currently posted over at Patheos.com.   For those who have not visited Patheos, you can read about the site in this review at Times and Seasons, and of course visit Patheos yourself and see their content.   They are also running an opposing view point by Nate Oman.   If you are so inclined to comment, please do so over at Patheos, as I have closed comments for this post over here.] (more…)

Saturday’s sessions of General Conference were rich in content and counsel not only for the community of Saints, but for the entire world.  Never in the history of the world has there been better opportunities for anyone to be able to disseminate words and counsel of living Prophets, Seers and Revelators.  The Internet, cable and satellite have transformed how these conference sessions are available to the world.

Again, The Church’s website will have a live stream here.    If you want to experience some of the newest technology, try the LDS Newsroom’s Twitter feed, which you can follow here:  twitter.com/LDSNewsroom.  The twitter search term for conference is #ldsconf, as well as #LDS and #Mormon.  Plug those exact search terms into Google, and you’ll fine a plethroa of information about General Conference.  Or, perform the same search directly on Twitter, and you will be amazed at what you will find in terms of General Conference discussion.  The Newsroom also has an article on the conference.  In the Bloggernacle, I’m certain there will be several blogs commenting on and following General Conference.  I will link them as I find them.  BCC, in addition to its live blog coverage also has a Twitter feed, which you can follow here: http://twitter.com/ByCommonConsent.  Millennial Star also has a Twitter feed here:  http://twitter.com/Millennialstar.

BCC’s conference thread is here.
