Daniel Peterson Goes Rogue–Transitions From Dark To Light

Daniel Peterson, long a conservative political activist, has jettisoned the GOP and joined ranks with Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, a fellow Mormon, to lead the fight for more comprehensive gun control legislation.  Specifically Peterson will labor in Utah, (where he is a professor at The BYU) in an effort to bring some semblance of sanity to Utah’s current gun culture.  When pressed for a comment, Peterson replied: “‘Interpret’ it how you want–but after Mitt’s dismal showing last year and the GOP’s future prospects, I’ve decided to lead a new and more positive, constructive life.”   There have apparently also been discussions of Peterson leaving the newly formed Interpreter A Journal of Mormon Scripture–an online Mormon Apologetic publication–to take a position as the social media editor for Dialogue, a Journal of Mormon Thought.  Neither Peterson, or Kristine Haglund (Dialogue’s current Editor–and shoe fashion guru) could be reached for further comment.

Back into History

I’ve been pretty much AWOL for most of this year, on the blog.  I’m going to be posting some older posts I once wrote for another blog, Bloggernacle Times (BT).   BT went inactive in March of 2007, and at the time I had considered copying all my posts I wrote at BT over here at Messenger and Advocate.  Unfortunately I did not.  And, for whatever reason nearly everything I wrote and posted over at BT somehow disappeared.  Subsequently, I have come across a few of them cached on the Internet, and for those I will try and re-post them here.  So, some of you may have already read some of the posts I’m about to re-post here.  My apologies in advance.  But, I do want to preserve some of the ones that I can find, that at least I liked.

Mormon Matters Massacre

I’m not certain what’s going on with John Dehlin and his Mormon Matters Blog—but from all accounts it looks to be a massacre in the classic sense of the word.  There are several good posts up already in the Bloggernacle about this debacle where you can get most of the details.  See Faith Promoting Rumor’s Elder Jensen and the Exploitation of the Sacred Moments, and Times and Seasons post Credible Criticism.  I’m sure there are likely others as well.

 

Trouble at Times and Seasons

(Update 04/09/09 7:15 a.m.  Kaimi has apparently responded, appropriately over at Adam’s new blog.  I’ve closed comments on this thread, and don’t have anything more to say–but wanted to link to Kaimi’s response).

The “Truth Will Prevail” motto appears to be going through some tough times over there at Times and Seasons. Adam Greenwood–one of the original founding members of the blog has now resigned, and opened shop over at Junior Ganymede. Most troubling, however, is his post relating why he has resigned from Times and Seasons. It’s only one side of the story; but, on its face it’s a troubling story–and there appear to be some facts and links in support. It’s a bit saddening for me, because my first initiation to the “Bloggernacle” was through Times and Seasons, many years ago. It appeared to be place where the Spirit and the Intellect co-existed in harmony–and all those really, really smart kids on the block–with all that higher education–appeared to all be very, very faithful Latter-day Saints. (And, I’m not suggesting any, some or all aren’t–that’s not my job). It is a bit saddening to read all is/was not at all well in Times and Seasons paradise. I wish them well over there, and hope they work through it all. And, Adam Greenwood–best of luck to you in your new endeavor.
